Job Profiles:

Who ensures that your mixer always runs smoothly?

In the field of audio technology, you work to make sound and audio reliably and high-quality available – whether in a recording studio for music production, at live events, or in media productions (film, radio, TV). You are part of the team responsible for recording, mixing, playback, and the technical implementation of sound.

Your typical tasks include setting up and checking the acoustic conditions of a room, selecting and wiring microphones, speakers, and mixing consoles, as well as operating and monitoring the equipment during recording or live situations. You optimize soundscapes, ensure clean levels, and eliminate noise – both in the studio and at live events. Additionally, you are responsible for the repair and maintenance of audio equipment, amplifiers, and mixing consoles to ensure that the equipment is always in perfect condition.

For this profession, you should have technical understanding of audio and studio technology, a trained ear, and a sense of sound aesthetics. Good communication skills are also important, as you will collaborate with artists, producers, or event organizers. Persistence and flexibility are also required, especially for evening or weekend shifts.

The usual entry point is through a school-based or dual training program as an "Audiotechnician / Audio Engineer," which typically lasts about 24 months. Alternatively, degree programs in audio engineering are available, offering a deeper dive into technology and production. Another training option is becoming an Information Electronics Technician for Devices and Systems, which provides solid knowledge in the installation, maintenance, and repair of audio systems. This training typically lasts 3.5 years and offers a strong foundation for working in audio technology.
