Job Profiles:

Who actually creates press releases for new artists?

The work of communication and PR managers in music publishing companies is of outstanding importance for the formulation and dissemination of messages about music and artists. In this professional field, you operate at the interface between the artists, the media and the public. Depending on the size of the music publisher, different tasks such as press relations, social media communication and content creation can be handled by one person or by different teams.

In your role as communications manager, you are responsible for the complete communications strategy. This includes the creation and maintenance of content in various media formats, the monitoring and optimisation of the social media presence, the design of visual content, the creation of press releases and continuous media monitoring. You may also be responsible for organising and supervising events and interviews to raise awareness of the publishing house and its artists and to strengthen its image.

In this area, you are characterised by a high sense of responsibility, as the establishment and expansion of both internal and external communication measures are in your area of responsibility. As a communications manager, you can use your network in the music and entertainment sector and bring together different media, players and influencers. Thanks to your good sense for contemporary user experience and the interplay of text and design, you contribute to successfully placing the music publisher and the artists in the media.

A completed vocational training or a degree in the field of communication, marketing or journalism is a good entry into this profession. Ideally, you have some work experience in corporate communications, (online) editorial work, social media or content creation. Working in communications and PR is especially suitable for career changers from other industries who have already worked in this field and now want to work in the music industry.
