Job Profiles:

Who actually organises the Hurricane Festival?

As an organiser, you are responsible for the planning, implementation and follow-up of festivals, concerts, trade fairs and musicals. Whether it's Hurricane Festival, a club concert, Gamescom, a city festival or The Lion King: every event has to be conceived, planned, organised and followed up.

The job as an event organiser is multifaceted, innovative and creative. You take care of the event concept and the suitable location, book the desired artists and organise the necessary technology. You are also responsible for marketing in the run-up to the event so that it is well attended and, in the best case, sold out. During the implementation, you are the number one contact person for all areas and ensure that all service providers and trades, such as the technology or security, are optimally coordinated. You keep track of everything, because you're the one who pulls all the strings together, and you have a plan B at hand in case of emergency. Once the event is over, you take care of the follow-up.

Organisers of festivals, concerts, musicals or fairs are usually in the office during the conception and planning phase, or they meet with service providers or customers. In the busy phase, they usually work from the venue and familiarise themselves with the conditions on site. As an event organiser, you are an organisational talent, flexible, independent and have good communication skills. You can also give free rein to your creativity. Of course, a concert, musical, festival or any other event is not organised and staged by one person alone: Depending on the size of the event, you will work with several people and each person, as a specialist in their own field, will only take on some of the above-mentioned tasks. At the same time, as an organiser it is often indispensable to bear the financial risk of the event and thus to keep an extremely careful eye on budgets, costs and income. This requires a strong sense of financial responsibility and the ability to manage resources and finances to ensure the success of the event.

You can learn the profession of event organiser, for example, as a classic apprenticeship as an event manager. A (dual) course of study to become an event manager is also possible. As a career changer, you should ideally already have experience in the organisation and implementation of events and be able to apply your expertise in the music industry.
